人間・時間・空間それぞれの間合いという日本特有の概念を表象して名称としたギャラリー・間(ＧＡＬＬＥＲＹ・ＭＡ)は水まわりの総合メーカー、ＴＯＴＯが運営する建築とインテリアデザインを主とした専門ギャラリーとして１９８５年１０月に誕生しました。
ＧＡＬＬＥＲＹ・ＭＡ開設の目的は、自主企画による建築やインテリアデザインの展覧会・講演会などを通じて質の高い情報の発信地となることにあります。展覧会は作家の思想・哲学を視覚的に表現、そして講演会は、建築家の考えに触れるとともにそれが展覧会のより深い理解につながると考えています。しかも幅広い見地から国内のみならず、国際的に活躍している建築家をも招き、海外の情報を提供しています。また、その活動主旨に基づき展覧会と連動した「ギャラリー・間 叢書」、「建築ＭＡＰ東京」などの出版活動も行っています。
このような活動が建築・デザイン界、さらには一般の方々へ常に刺激を与え、共感し交感する場となるよう願っています。 |

Founded in October of 1985, GALLERY
・ MA is a gallery specializing in architecture and
design, and is managed by the sanitary manufacturer
TOTO LTD. It takes its name from the unique Japanese
concept of MA, which symbolically links humans,
time, and space.
GALLERY ・ MA was established with the goal of disseminating
quality information through independently planned
exhibitions and lectures on architecture and design.
Its exhibitions supply a visual presentation of
the ideas and philosophies of the artists, while
its lectures enable people to have contact with
the artists and gain a deeper understanding of the
exhibitions. The gallery maintains a broad perspective
by inviting architects and designers active both
in Japan and internationally so as to supply information
from abroad. As part of this larger agenda, GALLERY
・ MA also publishes books in connection with its
exhibitions such as its series GALLERY ・ MA Books
and Architecture MAP.
Through these activities, GALLERY ・ MA strives to
provide the worlds of architecture and design, as
well as the public with a place for stimulation,
exchange and interaction. |
