プレーンな白い壁の内側に配された、ひと回り小さな3面ガラス張りのバスルーム。二つの箱の間に設けた細長いスペースに、上部から太陽光が射し込むと、ふんわりとやわらかな光に包まれた白い空間が出現する。

ここは海岸に近い敷地に建つセカンドハウスの浴室。ふだん多忙な暮らしを営む多世帯から成る家族が、日常から離れた時間を過ごすための別天地であり、設計者の二瓶渉さんいわく、「みんなの家」だそうだ。

風光明媚な土地ではあるが、周囲には家々が建て込み、建物の3階まで上がらないと海は望めない。3階の特等席には皆が集うリビング、1階にプライベートゾーンを配し、1階の安息を守る緩衝地帯である2階に浴室と客室を設けた。このため、浴室は海とは切り離された閉じた空間になったが、明るく広々したスペースには、年代の異なるメンバーが思い思いに楽しめる配慮が随所に見られ、ここもまた「みんなの場」であることがうかがえる。

This second home near the shore was built to provide the client's busy, multigenerational family with a place to get away from it all and relax. The living space where everyone gathers was located on the third floor because surrounding homes block the view of the sea from elsewhere in the house. Placed on the second floor, the bathroom and guest room act as a buffer to ensure quiet in the first floor bedrooms. Although the bathroom is an enclosed space, its glass sides are bounded with white walls to create long, narrow gaps that draw in the sun and envelop the entire space in soft, milky light.
