Products applying photocatalyst have been developed around the world, and countries are working on standardization. In Japan, the Photocatalysis Industry Association of Japan (PIAJ) was established in 2006 with the aim of standardizing and creating standards for photocatalytic products and promoting improvements in the quality, performance, and safety of photocatalytic products. Ahead of other countries, the Association has set certification criteria and this movement has been promoted in Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world.
The PIAJ mark
The PIAJ mark is a certification mark given to a photocatalytic product that the Association recognizes as meeting the standards in terms of its performance and use.
* Having satisfied the standards set by PIAJ and equipped with one of the recognized functions by PIAJ, namely the "air purification (Titanium dioxide) function," "self-cleaning function," or "anti-bacterial function," each of TOTO's HYDROTECT products in Japan carries the PIAJ mark.

PIAJ adopts the JIS testing methods to measure the photocatalytic performances and sets out certain performance standards with additional multidirectional demonstration and considerations (some parts of JIS correspond to ISO). In addition, the Association sets certain performance standards for the persistence effects and safety of the products.
TOTO validates the performance and safety of its photocatalyitc coating liquids and materials based on these official testing methods and the highly reliable methods suitable to each of the products and materials.
