Toshiyuki Kita

Movement as Concept

'89 Feb.23-Mar.20

Some people maintain that the shape of furniture never changes. Kita, however, has shattered this notion marvelously. The form of Kita's furniture is designed to change shape freely depending on the purpose for which it is being used. And while giving ample consideration to functionality, Kita lets us enjoy ourselves. We feel ourselves unconsciously drawn to try touching or sitting on each piece. No limits have been placed on the materials used to cover the furniture, giving it a sculpted appearance. Regardless of time or place, users will find Kita's work spiritually uplifting. The exhibition overflows with the designer's personal sincerity and sense of humanity.
