Itsuko Hasegawa

Architecture as the Rebirth of Nature
"The Hanging Garden"

'89 Mar.27-Apr.26

The exhibition makes a sensitive distinction between the use of indoor and outdoor space. The indoor exhibition features only Hasegawa's main work, "Shonandai Culture Center"(1989). In this work, natural elements are reproduces to introduce the rebirth of nature as a design concept. Standing together in the center of the exhibition are triangular pillars, the surfaces of each presenting plans, sketches and photographs that trace the various steps in the architectural design process. Outside, the exhibition features an ambitious recreation of Hasegawa's "Nagoya Design Expo Pavilion"(1989), measuring one third the size of the original.
