Yasuhiro Ishimoto


1921 Born in San Francisco.
1924 Returned home to Kochi Prefecture with his Parents.
1939 After Graduating from Kochi Prefectural Agricultural High School,
      Traveled in the United States.
1946 Studied in the Architecture Department of Northwestern University,
      Chicago.
1948 Entered the Photography Department of the Cicago Institute of Design.
      Studied with Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind.
1950 Won a prize in Young Photographer's Contest by Life Magazine.
1951 Won the Moholy Nagy Prize.
1952 Again won the Moholy Nagi Prize.
     Graduated from the Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of
      Technology.
1953 Returned to Japan. Started photographing KATSURA.
1957 Won the New Author's Prize of Japan Photography Critics' Association.
1958 Won the New Talent Prize of the Japanese Photography Critics' Association
      for his book "Someday, Somewhere".
     Traveled to the United Stated, staying in Chicago (-1961).
1961 Returned to Japan.
1962 Won Camera Art Award for "Face of Chicago".
1969 Obtained Japanese citizenship.
1970 Won the 1969 Mainichi Art Award for his book "Chicago, Chicago".
1978 Won the Annual Award of the Japan Photography Association.
     Won the Ministry of Education's Art Encouragement through the Selection of
      Excellence Award.
1981 Again Photographed KATSURA.
1983 Won the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon from the Japanese government.
1993 Won the Order of Cultural Merits from the Japanese government.
