Álvaro Siza

Álvaro Siza is an architect based in Porto, Portugal, who has been active for more than half a century. His spaces, which transcend the context of modernism and give a feeling of universal beauty and tranquillity, have been highly appraised, and Siza has received numerous awards from various countries. His design activities, which began in the 1950s in his birthplace of Matosinhos, have now spread throughout the world, including such countries as Spain, the Netherlands, Brazil, and South Korea.

Architecture always stands amid different conditions. Siza says that in making designs one of the important stances is to be able to respond sensitively to changes in conditions. The exhibition will feature seven of his representative works, including his latest works, that have a differing “context” and “nature of work.” It will show Siza’s approach in the design of each work and introduce his universal and poetic space quality that is given shape in each work.
