The TOTO Group is committed to combating global warming by releasing water-efficient products and promoting the use of them globally, setting itself a goal of generating 3.30 million tons less of CO2 emissions during product use by fiscal 2017 compared to if the Group had continued promoting the use of products boasting performance that was current in 2005. The fiscal 2015 result is 2.87 million tons
※Total CO2 emissions during product use is calculated using the amount of CO2 emissions during the period of product use for all products shipped during a particular year. (Excluding CO2 emissions of some products which their use is unknown.)
※Baseline fiscal year was changed from 1990 to 2005.
Bathroom Water Conservation Initiatives
For the bathroom, we are developing water-saving showers and insulated thermal pot "Mahobin" bathtubs that keep water hot. Such products help reduce CO2 so households can be more eco-friendly.
TOTO has continued to undertake development of water-saving showers, insulated bathtubs, etc., and has been working to improve the water-saving and energy-saving performance of the bathroom which uses more energy than any other plumbing equipment in the home.
Air in Shower
The power of air saves water and ensures comfort. New technology mixes air into shower water, which makes larger water droplets that feel great to wash in. This comfortable, water-saving shower helps cut CO2. Having expanded the use of Air-in-Shower technology in bathroom products, in fiscal 2014, Air-in-Shower products accounted for 58% of all bathroom fittings shipped in japan(67% increase from fiscal 2013).
TOTO is awarded the Energy Conservation Grand Prize and Eco-Products Awards
TOTO's success in leveraging the company's unique technology to develop products that are comfortable and convenient to use while also reducing water consumption has received dual recognition in the form of two awards: the Chairman's Prize, Energy Conservation Center, Japan, in the Product Category & Business Model Category of the 2012 Energy Conservation Grand Prize, and the Chairperson's Award, Eco-Products Awards Steering Committee, forming part of the Eco-Products Category at the 9th Eco-Products Awards.
TOTO is also deploying the technological strength and environmental performance of its Air-in-Shower technology overseas. We have advanced a number of product variations according to the overseas culture of showering and depending on the characteristics of each region. We are committed to promoting the wider use of this technology.
Kitchen and Washstand Water Conservation Initiatives
Eco Single faucet
Built so water heater stays off even when lever is in center position. This faucet is designed to prevent unconscious use of the water heater when the lever is in the frequently used center position. Since no unnecessary hot water is used, it reduces CO2. Having expanded the use of Eco Single faucets in kitchen and washroom products, in fiscal 2013, Eco Single faucets accounted for 83% of all kitchen fittings shipped (97% increase from fiscal 2012) and 35% of all washroom fittings shipped in japan(137% increase from fiscal 2012). For FY 2014, 83% for kitchen products (97% in the previous year), 35% for wash basins (137% in the previous year).
TOTO “Water Broom” faucets used in our CRASSO modular kitchens achieve water savings by means of a wide-flow shower. Having already equipped the “Water Broom” faucets with TOTO’s Eco Single feature, we further enhanced their environmental performance by also equipping them with a touch-switch function and Air-in function in March 2014.
